The Climate Smart Lending Platform (CSLP) was designed to provide financial incentives to farmers to adopt climate smart agriculture practices and respond to the long-term threat of climate change.
Between 2019 and 2020, P4F has supported the development of a minimum viable product for the CSLP – a platform with minimal features that early adopters will find easy to use. This proof of concept helped attract ECLOF Kenya – a microfinance company with 132,000 clients – to become the first financial institution to pilot the platform.
The successful pilot with 75 farmers in Nyandarua county in Kenya has encouraged ECLOF Kenya to scale their climate-smart loans to 45,000 farmers (covering 67,500 hectares) by the end of 2020.
This case study explores the CLSP solution, the partnership behind the scenes, and early results from the pilot with ECLOF Kenya.
