Brazil alone contains the largest forest area in the world;&nbsp;over&nbsp;60% of its land area is covered by forest,&nbsp;most within the&nbsp;Amazon basin&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;the largest continuous mass of the world\u2019s tropical forests.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The region is also an agricultural powerhouse.&nbsp;Global demand for&nbsp;food, energy, fibres and other materials&nbsp;provides strong incentives for further expansion of agricultural activities in the&nbsp;region.&nbsp;It also poses a challenge to the climate agenda&nbsp;since there is&nbsp;a constant need to reduce\u2014and even reverse\u2014the sector\u2019s legacy of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sh-hXG9d3dQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Approach<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Partnerships for Forests supports initiatives in forest landscapes at different stages of the Forest Transition Curve.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our programme approach is based on three major pillars that span the diverse dynamics of economic development in forest landscapes, addressing the different circumstances that are encountered in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In forests that are well conserved and where commercial use is limited, we use an approach of <strong>(1) creating value from standing forest<\/strong>. P4F is also present in landscapes where forest cover has largely been lost and large-scale agriculture is dominant. In these settings, we use a <strong>(2) production-protection<\/strong> approach.
