The video-case highlights the relevance of the Cacau Floresta project for the restoration of the biome in southeast Brazilian state of Pará. Since 2013, the project has encouraged small farmers to promote the restoration of degraded areas with agroforestry systems partnered with cocoa.
The video portrays the reality of small rural producers, who receive technical assistance for soil improvement and plant nutrition, adopt agroforestry systems partnered with cocoa, and increase productivity, income, and quality of the products of the land. “Those who invested in cocoa have now become the boss” says one of the interviewees.
Cacau Floresta currently operates in the municipalities of São Félix do Xingu and Tucumã, in the Brazilian state of Pará, with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as the responsible organisation and Olam Food Ingredients and Mondelēz International as partners in the arrangement with Partnerships for Forests, which sought the expansion of activities and the strengthening of rural technical assistance components, access to credit for agroforestry systems, as well as gender and youth inclusion activities. Alongside Partnerships for Forests are partners such as Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Humanize, and Extreme-e.
