Forestwise: Unlocking the potential of forest products for economic, social, and environmental goals

The world’s forests hold many plant-based products which could provide communities with alternative sources of income to monocultural logging or palm oil systems. Forestwise is supporting communities in Borneo to commercialise some of these products and introduce them to international markets.

Forestwise is just one example of a company helping create value from standing forest through commercialising non-timber forest products, like the illipe nut, native to the area. They are showing just how impactful this kind of business can be in advancing social and environmental goals. Other forest products, such as arenga sugar, wild forest honey, and essential oil, also hold similar potential. The world needs more of them.
