New Regional Director for West & Central Africa joins the Partnerships for Forests team

Partnerships for Forests is excited to welcome Kwesi Korboe as the programme’s new Regional Director for West & Central Africa. As Regional Director, Mr. Korboe will act as the programme’s representation in West and Central Africa, supervising the delivery of the programme’s regional and country strategies. He will also lead on relationship building with a wide range of stakeholders in the region, including civil society organisations, public and private sector entities.

Mr. Korboe has over 28 years of experience in agribusiness, agricultural project design and management. He joins Partnerships for Forests from the Ministry of Food & Agriculture (MoFA) in Ghana, where he served as Chief Technical Advisor/USAID Embedded Advisor as part of USAID’s technical support to the government of Ghana. During this time, Mr. Korboe initiated numerous projects and programmes for the ministry including the development of a policy on the adoption of High Quality Cassava Flour (HQCF) as composite flour in Ghana, and the Ghana Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (GIRSAL) Initiative, in collaboration with the Bank of Ghana and supported by the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). Mr. Korboe also sits on the Steering Committee of the US$ 150 million World Bank/USAID funded Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project (GCAP).

Prior to this, Mr. Korboe was Regional Manager for West Africa at ACDI/VOCA, as well as Country Representative of its subsidiary Agribusiness Systems International in Ghana. He has also previously worked with the US$ 547 million Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Compact Program for Ghana in a capacity of Chief of Party for the Southern Horticultural Zone Project. This project focused on providing production support and facilitating market access along five value chains for 20,000 farmers, aggregators, processors, and exporters.

Mr. Korboe’s other past positions include: CEO of Jei River Farms Ltd; Technical Member of the MCA Ghana (Lead Person for Agriculture Team); and Programme Manager for the EU-funded West Africa Fair Fruit Project, among others.

Mr. Korboe is a Ghanaian national, and holds an MA in Economic Policy Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Administration, as well as a BSc in Agriculture from the University of Ghana, Legon.
